  • Since affiliation, Habitat for Humanity Great Falls Area has built 20 homes

Mission Statement:

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God's love and can live and grow into all that God intends.

  • By building in partnership with people in need, affordable, safe, attractive, healthful and secure houses.
  • By offering dignity and hope through home ownership to those families with whom we partner.
  • By being a channel for the religious community and all people of good will through which all families might live in God's love and in the comfort of their own homes.

What is Habitat for Humanity?

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry seeking to eliminate substandard housing and make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. It is our belief that everybody deserves a simple, decent, safe place to lay their head at night.

How it works

  • Habitat homeowners are chosen based on their need for housing, level of income and willingness to partner with Habitat.
  • Homeowners must invest hundreds of "sweat equity" hours into the construction of their home. The sweat equity is used in lieu of a down payment.
  • Volunteers in partnership with the homeowner family build the home.
  • Donations from individuals, corporations, churches and organizations dedicated to housing issues are used to purchase materials and pay for licensed labor.
  • Families pay back the full cost of construction materials needed to build their home through a no-profit, no-interest mortgage.
  • Mortgage payments are recycled into the building fund, which is used for the construction of more homes.
  • Habitat homes have a living space of about 1,000 square feet. The average cost is about $65,000 (excluding the cost of the lot)
