Deconstruction is the careful removal of building materials to be salvaged for reuse. By deconstructing buildings, the ReStore is able to prevent usable materials from going to the landfill, offer unique product at the ReStore, and pass the savings along to the public! How Deconstruction works at the ReStore The property owner (or their representative) contacts the ReStore about a potential Deconstruction. The Decon staff performs a Recon, to determine if there is any usable product on the property. If there are salvagable materials, the Decon Manager and the property owner work out an agreement outlining timetables, materials available, and any other key information. Depending upon the agreed upon timetable and the amount of salvagable materials, the ReStore coordinates a team of volunteers to harvest all usable products from the property. Some deconstructs can take as little time as a few hours, and others can take days. All of the materials that are harvested are then brought back to the ReStore, priced, and placed on the sales floor. Facts about Deconstruction All Deconstructions are free. All harvested materials are considered tax deductable for the property owner. Examples of materials that we harvest from Deconstruction projects include:
